Strategy Assistant Intern (Compliance Focus)

Department: Legal & Compliance / Strategy
Location: Hybrid GTA, Ontario, Canada
Reports to: Compliance VP / Strategy Lead

Key Responsibilities

  1. Compliance Support
    • Conduct in-depth research on financial regulations, laws, and industry standards relevant to the company’s operations.
    • Monitor updates to regulatory requirements (e.g., CIRO, FINTRAC, Bank of Canada, or local financial authorities) and summarize implications for internal stakeholders.
  2. Documentation & Reporting
    • Assist in preparing and organizing documentation for regulatory submissions, audits, or partner due diligence.
    • Draft clear, concise reports and memos to communicate complex regulatory or compliance findings to technical and non-technical teams.
  3. Financial Product Analysis
    • Review and analyze financial products, services, and processes to ensure alignment with legal and compliance frameworks.
    • Support risk assessments by identifying gaps between business practices and regulatory expectations.
  4. Cross-functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with Legal, Risk Management, and Product teams to gather required information for regulatory filings.
    • Participate in compliance training sessions and contribute to internal process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Education: Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a Bachelor’s/Master’s program in Finance, Law, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of financial markets, products (e.g., equities, derivatives, ETFs), and regulatory frameworks.
    • Familiarity with compliance principles in financial services (e.g., AML, KYC, GDPR) is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal or regulatory text into actionable insights.
    • Advanced research and analytical abilities, including experience using legal databases or regulatory resources.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with compliance software is a bonus.
